  07/25/03 - Tour de France

Stage recap by Chris: Ok, so I wasn't able to make it to watch the actual stage, but with the beauty of OLN TV, I was able to follow every second of it live this morning. Coming into this stage, Lance was only ahead of Ulrich by just over a minute, however past tours has shown his lead to be in excess of 5 minutes. Ulrich knew that he had to beat Armstrong today in the last time trial, or else he would lost sight of his win. As the race started, Ulrich was only 2 seconds faster than Armstrong on the 1st checkpoint, which is not nearly enough of a time difference to put hope in Ulrich's eyes. Tradegy struck on a slippery corner, sending Ulrich into the hail bails and Lance Armstrong ahead. We all know that after one fall, we are cautious going into every corner that follows, especially on wet nasty pavement. Lance ended the stage taking 3rd and holding onto that yellow jersey and 5th straight Tour winner, while Ulrich came in 4th. Armstrong's efforts are far superior to the rest of the guys on the tour, which is also why Armstrong was named best male athlete by ESPN this year.

Congratulations Lance on taking home 5. Will there be a 6th win?
